August Client Corner - Business Boost Through Fitness

Posted by Darrah Courter on August 6, 2010 at 11:40 AM

So what kind of business are you in?

It really doesn't matter really. The business won't survive unless you have customers. Customers that actually pay you money. In a nut shell-- sales.

But what affects sales?

Obviously there is the big ones: your niche, your marketing ability and techniques, your sales ability and techniques, your drive, your vision, your goals. But there's a lot of other things that can affect your business- education, spouse, kids, stress, landlords, bills, neighbors, parents, siblings, lack of sleep, etc....

Then there is something that some people might not think can make that much of difference for your business but has tremendous impact-- Fitness

Fitness has a lot of benefits, but when people get busy it's usually pushed to the side and forgotten.

But it should be one of those things that all busy entrepreneurs and business people schedule into their routines-- much like bathing (I'm hoping you do this regularly)

Let's talk about the type of fitness you should be doing. First and foremost, you don't need to workout an hour a day or more. Most of the time 30 minutes will suffice. I could show you ways where you were only working out 10-15 minutes a day, although you probably wouldn't like me very much and would be cursing my name every time you tried to move.

Now all types of exercise will make you feel good afterwards and that's due to the release of certain types of hormones. So something as simple as a walk will do that. But in order to change physically it has to be intense. So things like weight training, circuits or intervals, boxing or kick boxing, swimming, sprinting, or many others. Or a combination of those.

Let's talk about the benefits of fitness and what it can do for you and your business.

First off there is the health benefit. Usually when we get sick, we go to the doctor, get some medicine, take the medicine and wait for it to go away. But with a regular fitness program people tend not to get sick as much. When you are physically fit and your heart has to work less, your body isn't carrying around as much excess body weight, you have more lean muscle tissue, everything in your body works better and more efficiently. And with more efficiency also come more energy!

You also sleep better and actually need less of it. This doesn't mean all you need is 4 hours a day though. But it has been proven that sleep is improved and deep (REM) sleep is longer.

Your mood levels will also improve. Did you have a bad day? Drink some water and workout for 20 minutes, and really push yourself hard. Guaranteed you will feel better with a much better outlook on life and your business.

And finally there's all that other stuff that's really important in determining how long you will live. Cholesterol, both the good and the bad will increase and decrease accordingly. Fitness will help your heart and combat heart disease and stroke.

So with all of that-- more energy, better mood, decreased doctor's visits and feeling like crap, better sleep, less body fat and weight-- do you think you could improve your business and sales just a little with all that going on?

Fitness is like getting a super internal business team behind you. But then some of those factors I mentioned are also dependent on better nutrition too-- but that's a whole different article.
